How can I host a food drive?
Host your own community food drive in your school, office, community group, or neighborhood! There are a number of types of food drives and ways they can be conducted, it’s just a matter of choosing the food drive that works best for you. One woman asked her friends to bring food, in lieu of gifts, to her 70th birthday party and was able to donate 180 pounds of shelf stable food! Please register your food drive in advance by contacting Miranda at firstname.lastname@example.org.
To get started take a look at our food drive guides below and print out our most needed items. Donation barrels are also available upon request.
- Food drives at school
- Food drives at your business, place of worship, or organization
- Food drives in your neighborhood
Food drives at grocery stores are always helpful to sustain our food supply. Contact the Volunteer Coordinator email@example.com to volunteer at our next scheduled food drive, or you can organize one with your favorite store (see below).
Can I donate produce?
We love fresh produce! North Helpline has wonderful partnerships with many local P-Patches, but we are always on the lookout for additional donations of fresh fruits and vegetables. If you are interested in donating from your personal garden or P-Patch, interested in setting aside part of your garden for North Helpline, or want to help collect extra produce from our north Seattle neighbors, contact Jeremy Kay, Food Bank Manager, at firstname.lastname@example.org or 206.367.347
Can I donate pet food?
Yes! We regularly distribute dog and cat food to our clients’ four legged friends. We prefer pet food donations that are within the expiration date.
Are there any food donations North Helpline can’t accept?
Unfortunately, there are some items that North Helpline simply cannot use. When considering donating to North Helpline, please refrain from donating any medicines, used clothing, opened products, or canned goods more than one year past their printed expiration date.
How to drop off my donation?
When donating, please park in the yellow loading zone on 33rd Avenue, at the south end of the North Helpline building. If you need help unloading your donation, walk up the short driveway to the double doors, and either open the door or ring the bell. Someone from the warehouse or office will be able to assist you.
It is crucial to North Helpline, the Low Income Housing Institute, and McDermott Place that the driveway is always left open and clear. Please do not park in or block this driveway, or we will need to ask you to move before unloading. Thank you for your understanding!
