How Can You Help

Tribute Gift Donations

Commemorate a life, celebrate an event, holiday, birthday or just simply thank a friend. Tribute gifts are a meaningful way to honor family, friends or colleagues. Complete the Tribute section on the online donation with the appropriate information.  North Helpline will notify the honoree with a personalized card acknowledging your gift (donation amount will be confidential).

Virtual Food Drives

Many of our corporate and foundation partners, as well as individuals, participate in the themed Virtual Food Drives held by North Helpline throughout the year. Virtual Food Drives allow us to provide more food than through a traditional canned food drive as we are able to leverage the dollars raised and purchase in bulk.
All you have to do to help raise funds through our Virtual Food

Drives is give us your information and logo, and we will set up your page. Then just set a fundraising goal and invite coworkers, friends and family to help you reach it!

In addition, some our donors go that extra mile by using our Virtual Food Drive tool to create their own fundraising events around events such as marathons, weddings or birthdays.

To register for one of our current Virtual Food Drives or to create your own, contact Amy Besunder, Executive Director.

Stock and Mutual Funds

Looking for a tax-wise way to keep the shelves stocked at North Helpline/ Lake City Food Bank? Are you holding shares that have appreciated significantly in value but pay a low dividend? Consider donating appreciated securities (stocks, bonds or mutual funds you've held for more than one year) to us. By doing so, you may be able to reduce or avoid capital gains taxes and receive a federal income tax charitable deduction.

We accept the following transfer methods for gifts of securities:

Electronic Transfer
To transfer securities to North Helpline, i.e. via Depository Trust Company (DTC), please provide the DTC transfer instructions to your broker. The securities will be transferred directly into our gift account at our broker.

In order to properly credit the gift, it is important that you or your broker notify us of the gift and its intended purpose, and for the broker to reference your name in the DTC transfer instructions.

Mutual Fund Transfer

We recommend that you or your broker contact the mutual fund representative or our Philanthropy department at 206-367-3477 when gifting units of a mutual fund.

The procedure for doing so may vary from one mutual fund to another. In some cases, the units may be transferred directly to our gift account via DTC. In other cases, North Helpline may be required to open an account with the fund and have the gifted units transferred into that account.
